INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Instruct intermediate students to complete the gaps, as they listen to the song.  Play the song as many times as necessary at a suitable speed, according to ability.
  • Instruct advanced students to complete as many gaps as possible first, then to listen to the song to check their version.

  • Follow the instructions for exercise 1.
  • Encourage advanced students not to give up, but to seek clues, i.e. rhyming words, BUT + contrasting statements, etc.   If they are struggling, get them to compare their ideas with others.

  • Function:          Comparing lifestyles

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Ask students what type of lifestyle the song describes:  restricted?  or unrestricted? 
  • Ask students in which category they would put their own lives 
  • Instruct students to work in pairs and create two lists to describe the two lifestyles.  Each list should be sub-divided into advantages and disadvantages
  • When complete, instruct students to compare their opinions with others in the class.
  • This theme can be developed into a group discussion and/or composition for homework.
